Guest Talk organised by the Department of History 22 April, 2026
The Department of History(RKMV) organised an academically enriching guest talk for PG students on the topic, The Indian Himalayas and Tibet on 22nd April 2026.
The session was conducted by Mr. Tenzin Tsundue, a writer, a researcher, and an activist for the Tibetan cause. The talk was delivered with the help of a well-prepared slide presentation, which made the session highly engaging and visually impactful.
Through the slide presentation, Mr. Tenzin effectively explained the cultural richness, political, and strategic significance of the Indian Himalayan regions and Tibet. The slide presentation featuring 176 pictures drawn from his firsthand travel experiences proved to be a stimulating virtual journey for the audience across the Indian Himalayas from Karakoram to the Burma border, passing through Kashmir, Ladakh, Lahaul, Spiti, Kinnaur, Garhwal, Kumaon, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Tawang, Itanagar, Menchukha, Tuting, and Miao.
Drawing extensively from his personal experiences and scholarly research, Mr. Tenzin elaborated on the cultural traditions, religious practices, and unique lifestyle of the people inhabiting the Himalayan belt and Tibet. He also addressed the historical ties between India and Tibet, emphasizing the shared heritage and longstanding cultural exchanges between the two regions. His reflections as an activist shed light on the contemporary realities faced by Tibetans and the importance of preserving Tibetan identity, language, and cultural heritage
The Principal, Dr. Anurita Saxena, praised the resource person for his engaging presentation and also highlighted the value of such guest talks and innovative learning approaches for the students
