A lecture on “Promoting Legal Literacy, Juvenile Justice and Access to Justice for Young Persons” And Cyber security and safety 31 August 2026.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of Political Science, Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV), Shimla, organized two informative lectures under the Legal Awareness Programme on 31 August 2026, focusing on legal literacy, access to justice, juvenile justice, cyber crimes and cyber safety.

The first lecture, titled Promoting Legal Literacy, Juvenile Justice and Access to Justice for Young Persons, was delivered by Ms. Shailja Sood, Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel, O/o LADC(S), Shimla. The session focused on creating awareness among students about their legal rights and responsibilities, juvenile justice, legal aid and access to justice. Ms. Sood highlighted the importance of legal literacy in everyday life and explained the principles of protection, rehabilitation and justice for young persons. She also emphasized the role of legal aid services in ensuring equal access to justice.

The second lecture, titled Cyber Crimes and Cyber Safety,” was delivered by Sh. Lalit Tanwar and Sh. Kamlesh from the Cyber Crime Unit, Shimla. The session focused on different forms of cyber crimes, online frauds and the importance of safe and responsible use of digital platforms. The speakers discussed common cyber crimes including online financial fraud, phishing, identity theft, fake social media profiles, OTP scams, cyber bullying and other forms of online cheating. They sensitized students about protecting personal information, passwords, bank details and social media accounts from cyber criminals.

The speakers particularly advised students not to share OTPs, passwords, PINs or other confidential information with unknown persons and encouraged them to remain vigilant while using social media, online banking, shopping websites and other digital services. The procedure for reporting cyber crimes and seeking assistance from the Cyber Crime authorities was also explained.

The two sessions witnessed enthusiastic participation, with 160 students attending the lecture on legal literacy and access to justice and 170 students attending the session on cyber crimes and cyber safety. Students actively participated in the discussions and interacted with the resource persons, gaining practical knowledge about legal rights, available legal aid services and responsible digital practices.

The programme served as a meaningful initiative towards strengthening legal awareness, digital literacy and responsible citizenship among young women. It emphasized that awareness of one's rights, responsibilities and available avenues of assistance is essential for accessing justice and navigating the increasingly digital environment safely.
