Educational Visit to Regional Horticulture Research and Training Station, Mashobra On 9 October 2026
On 9 October 2026, 35 students of Major Chemistry of RKMV, visited the Regional Horticulture Research and Training Station, Mashobra.
During the visit, the students were introduced to various crops and fruits cultivated in the region, with special emphasis on apple cultivation. They were also informed about the origin and history of apple cultivation in Himachal Pradesh and shown a documentary on the subject.
The students were further acquainted with the importance of soil analysis in agriculture. Dr. Upinder Sharma, Scientist (Soil Chemistry), explained soil dynamics and their role in crop cultivation. He also highlighted the importance of pesticides and fertilisers in crop production and discussed the role of essential macronutrients and micronutrients in ensuring optimal plant growth.
The students subsequently visited the Plant Pathology Laboratory, where Dr. Swati Gautam familiarised them with various experiments and research activities carried out in the laboratory.
The visit also included a tour of the Nature Farming Model Farm, where vegetables are cultivated using natural farming practices without the application of synthetic fertilisers. The students learned about the use of natural manure as a source of nutrients and also visited the station's greenhouse facility.
The visit provided valuable practical exposure to horticulture, soil chemistry, and sustainable agriculture, helping students connect classroom learning with real-world applications.
