Geography is the study of places and the relationship between people and their environment. It is the study of the “Earth” as the home of the human beings. This is one of the fast emerging subjects in social sciences and has wide perspective and outlook. It is not merely an academic subject but one with numerous practical applications. The theme of the subject not restricted to mountains, plateaus, plains and rivers only but has widened its expanse and entered into the field of Geo-informatics with two revolutionary subjects as Remote Sensing & GIS. When considering the width of its sweep, several career options open up for geography students; depending upon the area of specialization at P.G. level. Besides, Geography is the store house of knowledge. That may be the reason that it is considered as a popular and scoring subject for civil services and other competitive examinations. Moreover, it inculcates the love and respect for nature in the individual.
