The Department of Philosophy is one of the oldest departments of RKMV, Shimla.
Apart from lecture method, the department encourages the learning of students through presentation of short seminar papers by the students, group discussions of the students in presence of teachers, question answer session by students. Microteaching and informal teaching is done in small groups even beyond scheduled contact hours.
The department offers a wide spectrum of courses spread over three years/ six semesters (2013-20) in order to equip the students with skills and help them develop philosophical thinking. The faculty of the department has strong work ethics and is regularly engaged in student centric programs/activities which are executed through subject society.
The teachers keep a eye on each student’s weakness and strength in respect of the preparation of University examination. The students also keep constant touch with the department after graduation, even after post-graduation for personal and academic counseling. In consequence the department has a nice strength of alumni who are teaching in schools and colleges.
Teachers participate in the U.G.C. assisted seminar organized by colleges & University.
The teachers are also associated with various administrative and organizational activities in the college and also academic activities in the university. Faculty members are also serving the University as a member of the Board of studies in process of syllabus revision as well as syllabus formation.

Course Outcome
The B.A. Philosophy program in RKMV Shimla is an attempt to both introduce and at the same time provide an in-depth look into one of the most challenging subjects that one can study. It will introduce students to the great philosophers and their ideas and also how one thinks about contemporary problems through the lens of theories. It will give a comprehensive sweep of Indian and Western philosophy.
